I started smoking again. Like, a lot.

Other than that, an overview of where things are at - this entry strictly re. the professional - This is turning out to be a very different undertaking than i anticipated, as i anticipated. Whereas I thought that i would be developing civic education programs, building off an evaluation of a current project, yadda yadda - in order for these programs to be effective, it turns out that what really needs to be done here is quite different. Instead of working on direct communication programs targeting DRC's public, I am trying to develop internal and external communication systems and strategies for FEWER so that they can get the work they've done with local organizations on the international radar and inform the communication prgrams of orgs in the future so the work of those orgs can be more effective - essentially, to spotlight the local context of the work. which means not only am i having to learn as much as possible about the DRC and the socio-political history of the region, but learn about the international framework in which a international organization with a local base and local agenda functions. In a couple days I will be heading to Congo for a few days when they perform their community assessments, monitor the situation, interview opinion leaders and government actors. I'll be documenting everything they do for their own communication purposes - writing, photo, video, etc. - and not to mention for my own purposes as well - meaning for you.

Time to leave the office. more to come. the sun came out. i got out of town and saw the most beautiful sky. i rode a horse for the first time in at least 15 years. a much needed rest for the weeks to come.

more soon.
